Horizon-Video: 360 deg panorama 3 min before 2nd contact
video-camera pointed towards SW (sun's azimuth @totality)
NOTE: the incoming umbra is visible to the W-SW, i.e. off to the right
Hi8 video camera + .5x wide-angle (~84 deg horizontal span)

Horizon-Video: 2nd contact -- Bailey's Beads/Diamond-Ring/Totality
video-camera pointed towards SW (sun's azimuth @totality)
NOTE: the umbra practically covers the entire FOV. Venus is visible above the horizon.

Horizon-Video: 3rd contact -- Totality/Diamond-Ring/Bailey's Beads
video-camera pointed towards SW (sun's azimuth @totality)
NOTE: the brightening SW sky (due to umbra leaving, moving to the NE), makes Venus barely visible above the horizon.
During the panorama, you can see the trees swaying in the breeze.
At end of panorama, you can actually see the southern-umbral-edge "sweep by" (look near the telescope). Hi8 video camera + .5x wide-angle (~84 deg horizontal span)

A virtual eclipse simulation
(animated GIF,
1.2 Mb!)
This rendering shows the Moon, Earth and the cast shadow (umbra and penumbra) - IT IS NOT TO SCALE AND NOT INTENDED TO MIMIC REALITY, IT's SIMPLY AN ILLUSTRATION OF THE MOON'S SHADOW BEING CAST INTO SPACE AND FALLING ONTO EARTH.
If you click on this image, you will see an animation. Watch out, it's rather large and a while to load on slow modems. (1.2 Mb)
