When you use Poser, DAZ Studio or other 3D tools for fantasy art compositions you might often want to use some fancy backgrounds. There are many ways to create such unique backgrounds with PD Pro. Here's an example of some things you can do with the circular gradient tool.

Selecting or Creating your own Gradient

Starting from scratch with PD Pro 4.1 in this example, go to the Window manu and select the gradient panel, or simply press the shortcut 'p' on the keyboard.

click for full image

There are several groups of gradients available, and each group has a set of 8 gradients loaded to chose from. The default gradient collection starts with a greyscale gradient.

Click the 'Gradient' button to select a different group of gradients.

For example, select the gradient named 'antique2' .

Use the index slider to scrub through the 8 available gradients from this set. Select #7 for example

You can (and are encouraged to) customize your gradient. Just 'paint' the elevation of the gradient for each channel, even the opacity value. In this case we're increasing the blue values.

There are other ways to make gradients. For example, you can use colors from the color well under the color pickers. The colors from the color well can be drag-and-dropped into the gradient (just below the gradient, into the horizontal scale with tick marks).

Use the Smooth button in the top-right of the gradient panel to reduce sudden changes and kinks (unless you want them).

You can press-and-hold the smooth button or repeat-click it. There's also an autosmooth with timer that continuosly keeps smoothing.
