| max Sharpen (aka Art Sharpen) Use this filter to create color-reduction side effects for artsy looks. It will sharpen thye image and reduce colors. See more about it under the max Sharpen info from PD Pro.    Downloading the plugin: download and save this file directly into the folder where you have installed PD Artist: MaxSharpen_pf.exe The file size 36.5 KB (37,376 bytes). The build (modify) date was November 01, 2008, 9:19:29 PM Installing the plugin: Warning: This is not an installer, so don't Open or Run it directly from the web browser. Instead, simply save or copy the file into the PD Artist folder. The default location is: C:\Program Files\PD Artist Using the plugin: Since the filename ends in _pf.exe, it will be possible to see the plugin within the plugin browser. Look for the plugins panel in the Window menu of PD Artist:  You can also open it with the keyboard shortcut: [ k ] (perhaps k stands for killer plugins?)  After selecting the plugins panel, you will see this new plugin in the Filters tab. |
| Example of use: In this example, we start
with a plasma noise. PD Artist offers colored versions or greycales
versions like this one:
 After applying the max Sharpen filter, you may get it to look something like this: notice how there are fewer colors, and thus you see the banding, or thresholds.  Having such threshold makes it much easier to show edges or generate embossed appearance. This one below is embossed.  Now here's a trick: use Edge detect or Sobel edge, and save (copy) the edges in the alternate Swap buffer (using keyboard shortcut 'J'). You may want to invert the edge image so it looks like black lines on white. Then combine the original plasma noise image with the edges image, e.g. in multiply mode:  You can also apply a nice gradient now and get additional depth perception effects:  |
