Windows
7 - 32-bit editions
The good news: they did it right - it just works.
So far, we've installed PD Particles as well as PD Pro 4 and their
latest respective updates on a 32-bit Vista Ultimate, and found no
major issues.
In one case, we installed in a dedicated folder outside of the Program
Files folder, i.e. in a subfolder under 'My Documents'.
In another case we simply accepted the default folder of the installer.
Worked like a charm. Well, almost... read on.
Unexpected
Error - Quitting? easy solution fix
Installation of the baseline PD Pro 4.0 worked fine, and running the
program showed no issues. Thereafter, installing the 4.1 update over
the 4.0 installation worked fine as well, but there was a problem
launching the
program after succesfull application of the 4.1 update. Note that the
program worked fine right after installing 4.0,
but now it reported this error:

This is due to the fact that PD Pro wants to create a new subfolder,
but it doesn't have permission to do so, and so it fails. However, you
can very easily give it the right permission: Simply run the program
(at least once) as Administrator: Right-click the icon (desktop
shortcut, or the one from the Start menu, or even the dogwaffle.exe
icon inside the installed folder), and select "Run As Administrator".

In our testing, this allowed v4.1 to create the sub-folder it wanted
and to continue just fine. We were also able from then on to launch the
program the normal way, without running it as Adminisitrator again.
Also, the menu item Animation->Create...
did NOT cause a crash. That is an issue only under the 64-bit edition,
and you can find the workaround here.

Windows 7 - 64-bit
editions
The 64-bit version of Windows 7, just like Windows Vista, have two sets
of program folders. There's the 64-bit native collection, and another
folder for 32-bit (x86) versions.
Thus, you will want to choose where to install it. Dogwaffle is not a
native 64-bit application, so you would want to install it in the (x86)
version of the Program Files folder.
Installing
the Update Patch(es)
Furthermore, some of the update patches will not know automatically
where to switch their default folder to. You will have to use the
Browse button during the update patch installation, to point the
installer to the right folder where the baseline version was installed.
Also, depending on the many configuration options of your particular
installation of Windows 7, including rights administration and UAC,
there's a chance that you might need to run the the installers of
Dogwaffle and/or the updaters As
Administrator.
Example: Launching the PD Particles installer as Administrator:
Installing
in 'My Documents'
It may be of interest that perhaps a simpler way to install it is not
to let it go into the default Program Files folder, including the x86
version. Instead, you could choose to install into a folder of your own
designation, one that you create yourself, and one for which you don't
have access restrictions because you created the folder in an area that
you control and own without restrictions, such as the "My Documents"
folder.
Animation
-> Create causes crash - workaround solution
We
have released a separate alternate plugin to create new animations
from. This is to offer an alternative to the usual way, from the
Animation>Create... menu, since it has been observed under Windows
Vista 64-bit already (and again confirmed under Windows 7 64-bit) that
using the normal method crashed Dogwaffle.
The workaround is to use the plugin named CreateAnimation,
listed in the freebies/plugins area.
